Dr. Liu is a professor and the director of gastrointestinal and liver pathology at Washington University School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Immunology. Dr. Liu is an expert gastrointestinal and liver pathologist with strong clinical and translational research in gastroenterologic and hepatopancreaticobiliary diseases including Barrett’s esophagus, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreatic cancer, and liver diseases.
Dr. Liu currently works in a multidisciplinary environment at Washington University. She regularly interacts and collaborates with gastroenterologists and hepatologists, as well as colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary and transplant surgeons. Prior to this, Dr. Liu practiced internal medicine for five years and later obtained her MS degree in Physiology and PhD degree in toxicology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Liu has worked on cell injury/death and regeneration in a few research labs and collaborated with many basic research scientists and clinician scientists in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatopancreaticobiliary diseases for two decades.
Dr. Liu has authored more than 200 publications, edited two books and authored about 20 book chapters in gastrointestinal and liver pathology. She has mentored many residents and fellows in their clinical and research training. Dr. Liu has also served as editorial board member for several journals.
